The World’s leader in all things chili — the International Chili Society (ICS) — announced today its programming line up for the 54th Annual World Championship Chili Cook-off, which will debut in Myrtle Beach this September.
Turns out that the hottest place to be on the Grand Strand will be Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place, the official venue where hundreds of professional chili teams from over 30 states will gather to create the spiciest, greenest, healthiest and even wildest chili dishes ever tasted! Their goal? To impress local and international judges with their custom recipes as they compete for a $100,000 prize purse. And yes, even “unofficial” judges who just love eating chili will get a chance to take a bite out of the action!
WCCC’s programming line up will feature car shows, a beer garden, family fun zone, a kid’s cooking class, fireman’s chili challenge and much more. Here’s a “taste” of the special events that have been planned so far:
Looking to taste award-winning chili at the World’s Championship? By participating in People’s Choice Judging you can put your palate to the test in Myrtle Beach. Try tastings from any five of our competition teams and vote for your favorite one. The team with the most PC votes will be crowned the winner. Think you can handle more than 5 samples? No problem, attendees can purchase as many tasting tickets as their appetite desires.
Upgrade your “chilihead” experience in the World Championship Chili Cook-off VIP Lounge. Take a break from the Myrtle Beach heat and enjoy complimentary tastings from former champion chili cooks, and cold beverages from the private cash bar, all under a shaded outdoor lounge.
In cooperation with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, WCCC will host its inaugural Corporate Cup Challenge, a charitable event that will involve up to 25 local businesses and feature a People’s Choice judging process. The grand prize will be $2,500, along with $1,000 for second and $500 for third– all going to the winning teams’ charity of choice.
Visit ten different firehouses and you’re likely to find ten different chili recipes, all claiming to be the best. But, who really IS the best? We’re bringing them to YOU so that you can be the judge! Ticket purchasers will try ten different versions of this firehouse favorite as ten teams from ten states try to win top honors. Vote for your favorite chili and the team with the most votes will win a great donate to the charity of their choice.
The World Championship Chili Cook-off’s Family Fun Zone is the perfect outing for all families in the Grand Strand. From competitive food games and prizes to volleyball tournaments, this exciting event will have something for kids of all ages. $10 for each child participating in the zone will allow them all day access to the coolest spot on the grid.
Does your child have an interest in cooking? Then we've got the perfect "class" for you both! Bring your bunch for an interactive cooking class taught by Mr. Chilihead (Michael Freedman) himself! Learn the basics of chili according to the International Chili Society. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian but WCCC will provide all ingredients and equipment!
From craft beer to domestic pours, this is the place to chase all that great chili with some great brews. After a day full of chili tastings, sit back and enjoy the good vibes, cool tunes and good company in WCCC’s Beer Garden.
The founder of the International Chili Society, Carroll Shelby, was a man of many talents, including CHILI! Along with a couple of his friends, the Shelby Cobra designer developed the World Championship Chili Cook-off and changed the history of chili forever. Now, at the 54th annual event, WCCC will honor one of its founding fathers with a Cobra Car Show that will get all of our taste buds revved up for a great time!
WCCC’s main stage will be hopping all weekend, with a full schedule of live entertainment. Come watch cooking demonstrations and get pro tips from the chili experts. If you’re looking for something a little more ‘hands on,’ sign up for WCCC’s very own Hot Pepper Challenge and see if you have what it takes to be the last man or woman standing. Stick around for daily musical acts, including Season 17 winner of “The Voice,” Jake Hoot.
