Del Monte® Foods Provides Official Tomatoes For World Chili Champions

As more than 200 professional chili masters set their sights on Myrtle Beach this September, organizers of the World Championship Chili Cook-off (WCCC) are ensuring that the hundreds of pounds of consumer tastings will be packed with rich and quality flavors. Thanks to a new agreement with Del Monte Foods, the Official Tomatoes of Chili, some flavors will feature fresh tomatoes from one of the most famous brands in the food business.

WCCC, which is marking its 54th annual world championship with five major competitions and numerous people’s choice awards, is open to the public and will occur at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place, September 17-19, 2021.

“We are thrilled to be bringing on another high-quality brand that will satisfy even the most elite chiliheads with its fresh tasting products,” said Mike McCloud, President and CEO of WCCC. “History is such a huge part of WCCC, we are excited to have a partner with not only exceptional products but also deep-rooted American history.”

Del Monte Foods will also be sponsoring one of the more anticipated events at the chili fest, the Firehouse Chili Challenge with it’s brands College Inn® Broth and Del Monte® Canned Tomatoes. Six firehouse teams from around the nation will be vying for top honors in this people’s choice challenge, which will also honor our first responders with a charitable donation to the top three finishers.

“Del Monte Tomatoes is proud to be the key ingredient to great chili since 1886! We are thrilled to be a part of this year’s World Championship Chili Cook-off in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!”

The 54th Annual WCCC, presented by BUSH’S® Beans, will offer tourists and residents three full days of fun that can satisfy the whole family’s appetite. Aside from the wide array of flavorful chilis to choose from, activities like the Family Fun Zone, cornhole tournament and hot sauce/wing eating contest will keep the whole family entertained. As for the more mature crowd, several festive beer gardens with options including seltzers, imports, crafts and domestics will refresh attendees' palates. In addition, the 54th annual World Championship Chili Cook-off will be showcasing local and national musical acts fill the beach air with lively vibrations from country and rock artists.

Entry to the WCCC is free, but patrons can upgrade their experience by purchasing People’s Choice tasting tickets or join the VIP Lounge, where past Chili Champions will be serving recipes that have won tens of thousands of dollars in professional competitions. For those who prefer something other than chili, WCCC will also have Myrtle Beach’s best food trucks offering flavors with a more local flair.
